Privacy notice

Who we are

This website belongs to Harbor Lake Apartments, a 32 unit apartment community with mini-storage in Cheboygan, Michigan. The owner is Dan McGregor. In this notice, "we" and "us" mean Harbor Lake Apartments.

What we collect

We only receive information when you send it to us through a form, a phone call or an email.

The contact form

The contact form asks for your name, your phone number, your email address if you want to give one, what your question is about, how you would like to be reached, and your message.

The rental application

The rental application asks for more, because it is how Dan decides who to rent to. It asks for:

• your name and contact details
• your date of birth
• your current address and current landlord
• your employment and income
• the other people who would live in the apartment
• pets and vehicles
• references
• whether you have been evicted or asked to move out
• an emergency contact

If you list other people on the application, such as references or an emergency contact, please let them know you have shared their details with us.

What we do not ask for online

We do not ask for Social Security numbers or payment details on this website. The site does not take payments. Please do not put a Social Security number, a bank account number or a card number in a form or a message.

Why we collect it

We use what you send for two things: to review your rental application, and to reply to your questions about an apartment or a storage unit. Dan may contact the landlord, employer and references you list to confirm what is on the application.

We do not use your information for advertising.

Who sees it

• Harbor Lake Apartments. Dan reads the messages and applications.
• The form delivery provider. When you press send, a form delivery service transmits your message or application to Dan by email. That service processes the information in order to deliver it.

We do not sell personal information. Apart from checking the references you give us, we do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires it.

Cookies and tracking

This site does not use advertising or analytics cookies. There are no advertising trackers on it.

While you fill out the rental application, the site keeps a draft in your browser's session storage so you do not lose your answers if you move between steps. That draft stays on your own device. It is cleared when you close the tab or send the application.

Like most websites, the company that hosts this site may keep standard server logs, such as the IP address and browser type of each visit, to keep the site running.

The map on the contact page

The contact page shows a map from OpenStreetMap. When you open that page, your browser loads the map from openstreetmap.org, so that service receives the usual technical details of a web request, such as your IP address. OpenStreetMap has its own privacy policy. The directions links on that page open Google Maps, which has its own policy too.

Sending information safely

Forms on this site are sent over an encrypted connection. No website or email inbox can promise perfect security, which is one reason we keep Social Security numbers and payment details off the site. If you would rather not send an application online, call Dan.

Correcting or deleting your information

To see what we have from you, fix a mistake or ask us to delete it, call Dan at 989-621-0404 or email dmcgregor99@charter.net. We have not set a fixed period for keeping applications or messages. If there is a reason a record has to be kept, Dan will tell you.
